The only problem with standard, square headed aluminum nipples is that they have a tendency to round out (or strip) if you tighten them too much. The spline interface on our alloy nipples eliminates the stripping and allows for a much more reliable interface. In fact, they are less resistant to stripping than square headed steel nipples. The back of the nipple head has a fitting for a Torx wrench to improve wheel building as well.
