Ceramic rims were also developed for the road bike market and are only found on very, very elite aluminum road wheels. The coating is expensive, but it is an amazing braking surface. It is extremely hard and helps strengthen the wheel and prevents scratching and damage. Because of of this, it does not wear off like anodizing. Ceramic wheels will hold their matte black finish for years. Ceramic rims also require special brake pads. The coarse ceramic finish will eat through regular brake pads like butter. We offer replacement pads or you can find them at high end road shops.
